ROCH THORNTON Dear Mr. Thornton: This is in response to your letter of July 29, 1999, concerning maps of Vietnam. We have enclosed copies of indexes to Record Group 77, Records of the Office of the Chief of Engineers, Army Map Service, L-7014 series (1:50,000). These are unannotated topographic maps of Vietnam showing villages, roads, bodies water, vegetation and other geographical features. They do not show military units or movements. You may use the enclosed index and select the map or maps that may correspond with your coordinates. Each map is approximately 24" x 28" in size. Mail order reproductions of large-format records from the Maps and Plans Group, Special Media Archives Services Division (NWCS) are available only through the private vendors whose price lists are enclosed. Please complete the enclosed Reply to inquiry slip to indicate the maps you wish to have copied. Please follow the format used in the example. Please make arrangements directly with the vendor you choose. Any questions that arise during the ordering process should be addressed to the vendor you selected. We have referred a copy of your letter to our Modern Military Records Staff (NWCTM), so that they can conduct a search for any information on the coordinates stated in your letter for military movements. They will respond directly to you if they locate any records relevant to your inquiry. (They never sent me anything.) Sincerely,
RAYMOND COTTON Enclosures:
