This portrait was taken by an itinerant Korean photographer that stopped at CAP 2-7-2. Duong Van Dien — nicknamed “Balls” for his courage — was one of the unofficial interpreters employed by CAP 2. Balls and I were very close, but by the time this photo was taken he had stopped working for us and was attending school. He’s wearing a school uniform in this picture, a light blue shirt and navy blue slacks. He was 16, I was 19.
