Young Marine From Elverson Killed in War

A 19-year-old Chester County youth, who dropped out of high school to join the Marine Corps, has been killed in Vietnam, his parents said Tuesday.
He was Pfc. Andrew M. Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. William Phillips, of St Peter's and Harmonyville rds. Elverson.
Phillips was killed on or about January 14 when he stepped on a land mine in Quang Nam Province, the Defense Department told his parents.
Mrs. Phillips said her son wrote very few details about his duties.
"I guess he didn't want to worry us," she said.
Phillips left North Penn High School in Lansdale, Montgomery County, in March 1969, while in his senior year. He had been in Vietnam since October.
Other survivors include a brother, Christopher, and a sister, Mrs. Sandra Goff, of Mount Holly, N.J.
